Watercolor Basics

Grade 1-6

This unit covers the fundamental techniques for painting with watercolor. The lesson follow-up project will be dream paintings combining crayon and watercolor, based on the work of Marc Chagall. A few other potential projects are: ocean scenes, seasonal landscapes, and traditional Chinese painting.

Relief Printing

Grades 1-6

Printmaking is a great way to get students who might be a little nervous about doing things “right” or “wrong” to feel more comfortable with getting results that may be unexpected. It’s also just plain fun!

Field Studies

Grade 3-6

Field studies are a great way not only to practice sketching, but to teach students how to observe and analyze what they are looking at. Drawing an object forces you to look deeply at shapes, how parts connect, textures, and more.
